In 2020 I completed my police officer career with Bedfordshire Police as a Detective Chief Superintendent – Head of Crime & Public Protection.
I was a career Detective, leading homicide investigations as a PIP3 SIO (Senior Investigating Officer) with the Beds, Cambs & Herts collaborated Major Crime Unit and undertook additional specialisms including Kidnap and Extortion SIO, Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Senior Identification Manager (SIM), hostage negotiator and Mental Health Well Being Champion.
I have assessed and mentored with Practice to Progress since its started and my experiences as a Senior Selection Associate trained by the College of Policing are beneficial to this having assessed on local, tri-force and national entry and promotion processes.
I have unlocked the potential of under-represented groups in policing through delivery on the Aspire Programme at the College of Policing as a Service Associate and I am passionate about ensuring that policing is representative at all levels and in all roles of the communities that policing serves. My desire is creating empowering cultures, by ensuring supportive, authentic and ethical leadership across Teams, Departments and Commands and led by the motto of a simple test ‘Can I sleep at night with the decisions that I have made?’
In 2023 I completed a 6 month project with the College of Policing – Oscar Kilo relating to stress reduction and wellbeing in the police service, retaining my currency within the policing arena. I continue to be a facilitator with the NPCC – Diversity, Equality and Inclusion project delivering to first line supervisors, including at Hertfordshire Police and North Wales Police.
I was always, and continue to be driven by a desire to inspire people to accomplish far more than they ever thought possible through knowledge, confidence and self-belief.
Working with Practice to Progress provides me an opportunity to support people to their success, by guiding and nurturing and giving back to the service that I have been part of for over 30 years.
