Despite always knowing I wanted to join the police service, my education path led me to work in the construction industry. Eventually in my 30’s I made the decision to join the police service, which resulted in an enjoyable 25 years with West Mercia Police , where I undertook a wide variety of roles, these were mainly in front line posts from patrol, local policing and training to custody duties, public order tactical advisor and pursuit commander.

In parallel with this I worked both locally and nationally on assessment centres for officers and staff, selection and promotion. Towards the later part of my service one of the most rewarding opportunities I embraced was working with individuals with a specific learning difficulty (SpLD), most commonly I worked with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia. Assessing needs and expectations of both the individual and organisation, then putting in place structured support along with reasonable adjustments and coping strategies, maximising potential to the benefit of all parties by focusing on strengths.

In 2020 I was approached by P2P to join their associate team. I could see their ethos meant their associate team has a wide and broad knowledge bace, each bringing strengths from their experiences and backgrounds. Having retired from the police service it meant I could utilise my skills and help develop the next generation of policing professionals.

Since joining the team, P2P’s own diversification has allowed me to give support and encouragement to potential candidates across many sectors ensuring organisations and businesses evolve to work with and reflect the communities and sectors they serve. I enjoy seeing users of P2P develop their ability to pick through often unfamiliar and sometimes unexpected selection and development processes, enabling them to achieve career success in demanding and competitive environments.
