Ant Tenison

My name is Ant Tenison and I spent 30 years in the police service and for the vast majority of this time I worked as a detective.

I was the first person in my family to join the police service. I joined in the early 1990s and saw policing change and morph into a far more inclusive and diverse workplace than it was when I joined.

As a detective, it was my job to support the victims of the most serious offences and to track down serious offenders. My role took me all over the world and highlights would include working with the LAPD in Los Angeles, the FBI, and spending time in Germany with the national German police. Closer to home I met some very interesting people from other government organisations and the military.

What’s that all might sound very glamorous the reality is getting to meet and help normal everyday people doing their best place is what policing is all about. I never forgot what it felt like the first time I left the police station in a uniform. There are so many different roles in policing and most definitely a job for everybody. My last four years was in a training department so I know what you will be entering and how best to prepare.

Since leaving Policing I really enjoy my time working with P2P, there is so much experience from my colleagues some of whom have achieved amazing things and are now really keen to pass on the skills and knowledge to advance people into a Police career.

Away from P2P I run a small training consultancy and I still work with numerous police services, local government agencies and a few corporate organisations training people with regards investigative skills I’ve picked up on the way. I get a bit more time to visit the gym and walk the dog as well as support the family.

Policing as a career is like no other. You’ll get a chance to make a massive positive change to people’s lives from the day you leave training school.
