I retired from policing in October 2021 after just over 30 years. Most of my service was in Merseyside Police where I worked in both uniform and detective roles. I worked at most ranks in Liverpool City Centre and was Area Commander at St Helens. I was a DI in the Major Incident Team; Head of Complaints in PSD; Head of HR and led several force change programmes. I was proud to reach Assistant Chief Constable where I had responsibility for Local Policing and Criminal Justice.
In 2019 I moved to Cheshire Constabulary as Deputy Chief Constable where I was responsible for performance, professional standards, risk management and change.
As a Chief Officer, I was the NPCC lead for LGBT+ and had a real desire to ensure inclusion within policing. I genuinely want to make sure that everyone in policing can come to work and have the confidence to truly be themselves and I will do everything I can to ensure this happens. As an ally to the LGBT+ community, I was able to push agendas that those within the community may have struggled with, particularly around Trans inclusion.
Since retiring I have continued to do pieces of work in support of those in policing, helping them to reach their potential and be the best they can be. I have worked as an associate with P2P since January 2022 and supported many people who have been going through senior PNAC as well others going through the Fast Track programme. I have helped people to understand the assessments they will go through as well as mentored many. I have also supported a number of people who have been going through internal promotion processes who want just a little extra independent support. The personal touch we can provide at P2P is amazing and the feedback we receive is positive about how we do it and how it has helped candidates with their next steps in their career and built their confidence.
I am proud to be one of small group at P2P who design programmes and workshops to deliver to small groups who are going through various processes
I am married with two teenage children and am also focused on getting fitter and improving my golf handicap. I am the Chair of Trustees on a large national charity called PSS, which amongst other things delivers commissioned services to vulnerable adults.
Throughout my service, I have been lucky to have good mentors and support networks and have always mentored many others through different phases in their careers. Being part of P2P enables me to continue to do that and assist others to develop to be the best they can be and achieve the roles they aspire to.
