I retired from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in October 2021 having served almost 3 decades across 3 different Fire Services. During my career I worked as an operational firefighter and as an instructor and manager in Learning and Development before ultimately becoming Chief Fire Officer with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in April 2016.
During my career I led Staffordshire through a significant transformation programme as well as leading several significant collaborative projects with a range of partners. I am an experienced operational Gold Commander having led the response to many major incidents from both a fire service and partnership perspective.
From 2014 I was the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Programme Director for the Fire Service’s Executive Leadership Programme (ELP). This role included managing and leading the annual gateway process for the programme along with working closely with Warwick Business School as part of the facilitation team for several cohorts of attendees.
Since my retirement I have become an Associate Professor with Warwick Business School delivering bespoke executive education, and I am an Associate of the Birmingham Leadership Institute (BLI) and Chair of the BLI Honorary Fellows. I continue to be involved in strategic leadership development within the FRS through the NFCC by continuing to lead and deliver the ELP gateway.
I have over 15 years of experience interviewing and assessing and as a qualified coach I continue to support individuals across a range of organisations to achieve their career aspirations. I am very pleased to be part of P2P as this enables me to continue this work and help people progress in their chosen field. Supporting people through the daunting task of a promotion process is highly rewarding and P2P is a safe place to help people improve their self-confidence whilst also recognising their own knowledge and abilities.
I am passionate about leadership and the need for difference in leadership positions and P2P will help enhance the levels of diversity across leadership levels in the Fire Service.
Beyond work, cycling is a passion of mine and I enjoy nothing more than a walk in the mountains and hills with my wife.
