I started my career as an On Call firefighter in 1989, and 4 years later achieved my childhood dream of becoming a full-time firefighter. During my career I have led projects delivering significant change to the Local Communities and the Fire Sector, from an operational firefighter to temporary Assistant Chief Fire Officer, and my current role as an Area Manager.
My professional experiences and development have been enhanced by the achievement of a range of qualifications, including becoming a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers, and gaining an MBA from Lincoln University. I have also completed the Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) from Warwick Business School. I have acquired a depth of operational knowledge, with experience at all levels up to and including operational Gold Command, and have responded to major incidents from both a Fire Service and partnership perspective, be it fire, flood, or flu!
I believe the people I work with are the key to any success and I endeavour to develop both the individual and the team, to excel and achieve our ambitions. I have over 20 years’ experience in developing and implementing assessments processes, and I am an experienced and trained assessor. At a national level I have worked with the National Fire Chiefs (NFCC) as part of secondment opportunity in setting up a National Fire Service Coaching and Mentoring Portal, and developing a pathway for a Direct Entry Programme.
I am excited to be part of P2P team as this enables me to continue to support and help people to progress in their chosen career. I know from personal experience that applying for and then entering into a selection / promotion process can be a daunting prospect. This is why working with P2P is such a fantastic opportunity, in facilitating a safe place to help people improve their self-confidence and unlocking their potential, whilst also creating an opportunity for me to continue to learn from others
I am passionate about leadership and working with P2P will support the continued drive to help increase diversity across all levels of the Fire Service.
I am a keen cyclist, although my daughter would say obsessive, as I find it a valuable way of keeping fit and allowing me time to reflect and develop new ideas along with taking in the fantastic views in the beautiful County of Lincolnshire.
