How to join the police as a member of staff

In police forces across the country, there are thousands of individuals who are employed as members of police staff.

Police staff support frontline policing in a variety of operational and non-operational, uniformed, and non-uniformed roles. Many police staff roles include temporary, permanent, part-time, and full-time positions. These roles offer flexible and agile (remote) working.

From roles within a support function or a public-facing role, there are many potential career opportunities. Many forces also offer Apprenticeships within their police staff roles, enabling employees to study for a qualification whilst earning a wage.

How do I apply?

There are a huge variety of police staff roles you can do within policing and each police force will have a slightly different recruitment process depending on the role and seniority. Applying for a police staff position will typically involve you doing the following:

  • Submitting a police staff application form
  • Attending a competency-based interview
  • Making and delivering a presentation (some roles)
