Marie Carmichael

From my earliest days in primary school, I held a steadfast ambition: to become a Police Officer. It’s a dream I pursued and realised over a fulfilling career spanning 32 years, dedicated to serving the public.

Recently retired, I’ve embarked on a new journey with P2P, eager to impart the wealth of knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated to those aspiring to join policing or seeking promotion.

Throughout my career, I thrived within the camaraderie of the police family, driven always by a commitment to safeguarding and upholding justice. From conducting serious and complex investigations to my final years spent in the Professional Standards Department, I’ve remained fervently devoted to the Peelian principles of policing by consent, fostering mutual respect and cooperation between the police service and the public.

My policing career afforded me the privilege of collaborating with exceptional professionals and forging enduring bonds with community members and partnership agencies. Making a tangible difference in people’s lives, ensuring their safety and well-being, has been a deeply rewarding aspect of my service.

I spent several years as a police trainer ensuring the development of new recruits and serving officers.  I watched their growth in confidence, enthusiasm, and expertise. This experience instilled in me a profound sense of fulfilment and purpose.

In my retirement, I’ve transitioned into the realm of employment mediation and human resources investigations, drawing upon my detective skills in investigations, interviewing, and personnel management acquired during my tenure in Professional Standards.

Partnering with P2P allows me to continue shaping the future of policing, contributing to the cultivation of a robust and responsive police service that we can be proud of. I’m excited about the opportunity to remain engaged in this vital work, using my experiences to inspire confidence and drive positive change within the policing community.
