This eLearning course has been designed to help those individuals who are applying for the Inspectors and Chief Inspectors police promotion process and who need support in preparing for their interview.  

In these times of austerity, there are fewer opportunities for police promotion and many more qualified officers to compete with. In some forces, police promotion boards for Inspectors and Chief Inspectors haven’t been held for several years. It is therefore vital to be well prepared and be in a position to succeed when the opportunity arises.

Many individuals go into their police promotion interview unprepared, lacking in confidence and as a result, failing to present their evidence with impact. Very often candidates will spend hours and hours reading force policies or critical incident manuals. This is unnecessary preparation and will almost certainly lead to failure on your big day. It is therefore essential to get your preparation right!

Course Content

The police promotion interview is designed to test your leadership skills and qualities with a view to predicting your future leadership behaviour.

It is not designed to test your operational abilities as these are tested nationally as part of nationally accredited courses. It is essential to take your time to understand the interview process and the assessment criteria before presenting your leadership evidence.

This self-paced course will help you fully understand the competencies which are being assessed by the police promotion board panel and will also provide examples of likely areas of questioning.

You will be provided with an interview structure to help you respond to questions asked by the police promotion board panel in the knowledge that this method has been tried and tested around the Country with many course participants securing top place performance at their interview.

This module will also provide you with some top tips for the day of your interview to help further enhance your overall performance.
