Dee Collins CBE

Associate

I believe strongly in supporting people to be the very best version of themselves that they can be.

Having an inclusive team around you enables better decision making, a healthier working environment, and increases productivity. I really enjoy bringing different cultures and experience together to develop ideas, solutions to challenges and a long term sustainable approach.

I served as a Police Officer for 32 years and retired from Policing in 2019 having worked in four different Forces across the country. My roles were mainly operational and included training and development, professional standards, and equality and inclusion.

In my last role I was the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police where I led the Force through a challenging and turbulent time, adopting a new strategic ambition that was used to underpin the values of fairness, integrity and respect when dealing with our communities. The Force was recognised for the improvements by Her Majesties Inspectorate of Constabulary.

I also led the Strategic Command Course for Chief Officer Development during 2019 for delegates from Police Forces from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, as well as representatives from other jurisdictions and public sector services.

I was the President of the British Association of Women in Policing for 5 years, and on retirement I became the Secretary (a role I enjoyed as a volunteer until I stood down last year). I have always been very passionate about supporting women within the police service and beyond. I was recognised for this work by winning the International Association of Women in Policing annual Mentoring and Coaching Award in 2013, and I was awarded a Commander of the British Empire Medal by The Queen in 2018.

During the last four years I have stayed engaged and connected to Policing :

  • I have worked as an associate with P2P since it’s inception as an associate, mentor and consultant. I strongly advocate the work of P2P and in particular the support and guidance they offer individuals and teams to develop confidence and skills to advance in their ambitions, whether through a selection process or joining the service.
I have been the Co-Chair for the Operation Leven enquiry into the Metropolitan Police’s Protection and Diplomatic Team that has recently published findings.
I was a member of the Police Foundation’s Strategic Review of Policing.
I chair an Oversight Board on behalf of PD Ports who operate their own independent Harbour Police Service.
I remain an Honorary Member of the BAWP and am part of their Awards Committee.
I regularly sit on selection panels for various Chief Officer processes including more recently State of Jersey, the Garda, Lincolnshire and Northumbria Forces.
